Bismarck was the first battleship of its class built for the German Kriegsmarine. Launched on 14 February 1939 and commissioned in August 1940. It became famous for its only combat sortie in May 1941, when in the Battle of the Denmark Strait it sank HMS Hood and became the primary target of the British fleet. After being pursued, it was heavily damaged on 26 May 1941 and sunk on 27 May 1941.
