The Opel Rekord C “Black Widow” is among the best-known and most mysterious race cars of its time. Although it was developed in secrecy in 1967–1969 and despite General Motors’ ban on taking part in races, the sporty 180-horsepower version caused a sensation on the circuits. Thanks to its black paint with yellow accents, it earned the nicknames “Racing Taxi” and “Black Widow”, and drivers such as Erich Bitter and the young Niki Lauda appeared behind the wheel.
