Dilophosaurus lived approximately 193 million years ago during the Early Jurassic. It was a bipedal carnivorous dinosaur that reached a length of around 7 meters and weighed approximately 350–400 kg. According to a 2021 scientific study, the longest known and more thoroughly described specimen measured exactly 7 meters and weighed about 726 kg when alive.
It got its name from the two characteristic semicircular crests on its skull. Its fossils were discovered in Arizona, USA (1942). A debatable specimen is also known from China’s Yunnan (today it bears its own genus name, Sinosaurus).
