The goal of sensory education is to give the child the opportunity to obtain clear and conscious information from the environment thanks to their senses – and thus enable them to get to know their surroundings and the world more deeply and accurately. Marie Montessori believed that a child perceives with all their senses from birth. With their senses, the child becomes familiar with their surroundings, studies them, and thanks to these insights then begins to understand them as well – the child is a kind of “sensory explorer”.
Children do not learn by us telling them something, but primarily through their own experiences – by being able to “touch” things and explore independently. Children are most open to developing their senses approximately from 2 to 6 years, and it is precisely during this period that it is very important to give them as many opportunities as possible to develop all of their senses.
