The sandpaper numerals are stored in a natural wooden box, and each tablet combines a smooth base with a rough (sandpaper) number line. The child traces the numeral with the index and middle finger, says its name aloud, and gradually learns to recognize it confidently even without a prompt. The direct aim is to show the child the written symbol that corresponds to a quantity they can name.

The material also supports fine motor skills and indirectly prepares for practicing writing individual numerals. A recommended prerequisite is knowledge of the concepts of numbers 1–10 (e.g., after working with the red-and-blue rods).

Recommended way of working:

Select 3 numerals (they do not have to be in order) and place them on the table with spaces between them.
Trace the numeral several times with your fingers and clearly say its name, then let the child trace it.
Then ask the child to do tasks (e.g., “Give me number 8”, “Trace number 5”) and keep shuffling the tablets as you go.
If the child is unsure, do not correct them—present the numeral again during later work.
