Each cylinder makes a different sound when shaken – from loud to very subtle. The child looks for matching pairs between the red and blue set, training auditory discrimination as well as concentration.
The aid is stored in two wooden boxes of the same size. The top parts of the cylinders are color-coded (red/blue), which supports clarity during work and easy storage.
The cylinders can be arranged by sound intensity and naturally develop concepts such as loud, quieter, or quietest. Great for sensory activities and language development in the Montessori spirit.
Moyo Montessori sound cylinders are among the classic Montessori materials focused on sensory education. The material consists of two sets of wooden cylinders, which at first glance are distinguished by the color of the tops (red and blue). Each cylinder is filled with a different material and therefore produces a different sound intensity when shaken. The child’s task is to find pairs with the same sound – sounds in the red set correspond to sounds in the blue set.
In addition to pairing, the cylinders can also be used for sound gradation (from the loudest to the quietest). The material naturally supports language development as well – the child learns the terms loud and quiet/subtle, including comparatives and superlatives.
